Evaluation 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?
From my audience feedback, i learned a great many things such as the use of shaky cam in shots, the use of dogs in the music video and animation of my pieces of paper which grow in my music video.
Firstly, i was told that the use of shaky cam in one of my first shots in the music video was very effective with the colour correction as it gave a disorientated erie effect which set the mood for the music video, this shot lasts a few seconds which features the view from a window on the 1st floor of a house looking down onto the road and trees, not only did it set the atmosphere for the rest of the music video but it gave it symbolic connotations of the character being trapped and looking out onto the road and trees for freedom, the shaky cam being their POV and the window veil being what is between the character and their freedom, they just need to lift it and go through.
My second piece of feedback was on the use of my dogs in my music video. Originally i had many more shots of them in the video, although my teacher suggested removing a few as it made my music video look unprofessional in the sense that i ran out of things to film and filled the holes with footage of my dogs, which isn't what i wanted, it was clear that i had not had enough emphasis at the start of the video of my character and his dogs being stuck, more just on my character, so i decided to replace the dog shots with other establishing shots of the countryside showing the character being free so that the dog shots were limited right down, making my music video look far more professional which i agreed with. I then decided instead of getting rid of the shots to use ones that i already had (which weren't used) to colour correct them in AfterEffects and then place them in later on as flashbacks which worked successfully from further feedback, so that i had shots of my dogs wanting to escape in black and white, and then shots of them happy as they're leaving.
My last bit of feedback was on the pieces of paper which grew around my room which represented the problems the character faced, my teacher originally said that they were a great idea, although they could be improved. I was told that if i got some further shots of more specific stop-motion animation which featured the words on the pieces of paper writing themselves, it would work a lot better, so i did this, i went home and filled a wall within a considerably large frame for the camera and filmed for 10 seconds each character being written of 'Bills, Work, Tax, No escape' and then the next day, imported them into AfterEffects, added the tint and curves colour correction and then imported them to Premiere and patched them in to replace other clips of the pieces of paper suddenly spontaneously moving, this really enhanced the visual effect of the stop-motion animation and really gave the mysterious effect of how they are being written which is what i wanted to create.
In conclusion, i showed an early draft of my music video to my friends and teachers, received their feedback and worked on it to improve my music video even further, which was ultimately a success.
