The Introduction

Introduction

Hello there. My name is Jacob Price and for my A2 Project i intend on creating a music video. The song would be chosen from an existing artist who will give me permission to make a 3-6 minute music video of the chosen song, which i will have to find, consider, ask for permission, and then use for my project if the following steps are complete.

Idea concept 1

My first idea would be a music video based around the song 'Run Boy Run' by Woodkid. The music video would be about a group of friends traveling around the countryside, visiting iconic landmarks throughout the journey of one day in a road trip. It would follow three or four people leaving the house in the early hours of a mourning getting ready, getting in a car with everyone else, shots of the car from the outside, outside from inside of the car, other cars going by, and each of the people at the landmarks. I would use landmarks in London, such as Big Ben, The London Eye, Tower Bridge,
30 St Mary Axe, and more local landmarks like Stone Hendge. The music video would cover the travel transitions between each, and the friends taking photos of themselves there.

Idea concept 2

My second idea for my music video idea was for the song 'Chances' by Athlete, it would be a video showing a two guys, one driving the other home, he would get out and it would then cut to some sort of funeral service being held, hinting that it was the man in the car who had died. The video would show the grief the friend is going through and how he deals with the situation. I thought of this idea and decided if i were going to take it any further i would need a slow song to work with it, most likely a song with a piano in because that represents sadness the most out of all instruments, i came across this song and thought it would be perfect for the idea for the very specific parts i imagined i would have for the story. For this specific video idea, i also imagined using the song 'The Night We Met' by Lord Huron, another slow sad song which i believed would suit my video incredibly well.

Idea Concept 4

Another song i considered doing was 'O children' by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, being a fan of this artist i was inspired by the song to make something dark for it, as the song is quite a slow song i thought of a narrative for some time and believed that i could pull of a slightly confusing disturbing music video, not really showing someone's identity, but their story through objects and locations, even ideas. Over going over this project idea i believe it has a strong potential to be pursued for my music video.

Idea Concept 5

The final song is 'Heroes' by David Bowie but performed by Peter Gabriel. This song is a much slower paced cover of the song performed mainly by violin which has a very strong emotional atmosphere to it, unlike the original performed by David Bowie which is very up beat. When listening to this song i imagined a sort of adventure narrative fitting it. One in which someone leaves everything they own and goes on an adventure with their closest friend, a dog, the two would travel around together going wherever the wind takes them. The song would suit this in the aspect of the two being forced to leave for unexplained reasons. Although the song is slow and has a strong sad emotion, halfway through the song it gets more up beat and the depressing atmosphere sort of lifts, This would suit my narrative of the man and dog leaving, but enjoying themselves on the adventure that they are taking on.

Final decision

After contemplating each four concepts i narrowed it down to Concept 4, 'Heroes' by Peter Gabriel. I chose this song as i believe i have the best concepts for it down the road for filming and the layout, as well as the song is one of my favourite songs which is further inspiring me to do so much more with it, which is unique to all the other songs which i am finding more difficult to make a strong narrative from which isn't just a synopsis.
